On February 7, 2012, the first VICTUS cataract surgery in Europe took place at the Gemini Eye Clinic. The first patient underwent the procedure in Zlín and was operated on by eye surgeon Pavel Stodůlka, to whom thus the primacy in this type of surgery belongs. She was the same patient who in 1995 was the first Czech to undergo LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Stodůlka.
This week, it has been 10 years since the VICTUS laser was used in Europe to remove cataracts. Cataract surgery is the most common surgical procedure in the world. Only in our country, eye surgeons perform about 100,000 of them every single year. The introduction of the VICTUS femtosecond laser has brought a significant shift in ophthalmology. The laser platform is equipped with a highly accurate function for recognizing intraocular structures. The procedure became more gentle and, above all, more precise.
Coincidentally, the patient who was the first in Europe to undergo cataract surgery with the VICTUS laser platform was also the first Czech to have had high myopia removed by the LASIK method 17 years earlier. Both firsts belong to eye surgeon Pavel Stodůlka. One of the first patients who underwent cataract surgery with the VICTUS laser is also the CZech former president prof. Václav Klaus.
Laser assistance in cataract surgery is not covered by health insurance companies. Patients can decide for it as part of additional services according to the currently valid price list.
