Czech eye surgeons have long ranked among the top in the world in ophthalmic medicine. Every year they help tens of thousands of patients using new modern procedures. The most frequently performed procedures include cataract surgery or laser diopter surgery.
The largest and most modern private eye care clinic in the Czech Republic can be found in Zlín. Its head is the world-renowned surgeon and innovator Pavel Stodůlka, from whom many foreign ophthalmologists come every year to learn.
Until recently, correcting two eye defects at once was impossible. However, in December, the first presbyopia surgery was performed using the ReLEx Smile method. This surgical procedure simultaneously corrects myopia and presbyopia.
Another success of the eye clinic last year was establishing its own tissue bank. It became the fourth tissue bank in the Czech Republic. Thanks to the greater availability of corneas, more patients will now be helped in a shorter time.
World teams of specialists are working on the development of an artificial cornea or on faster and more accurate lasers. Eye surgery is still evolving rapidly, and thanks to today’s medicine, it is possible to restore sight even to a person who has been blind for several years.
