The last weekend of February was dedicated to a prestigious event in ophthalmology the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons) Winter Symposium, which this year took place in Athens. The meeting of leading ophthalmic surgeons and experts from around the world once again featured inspiring lectures, interactive courses, and discussions on the latest trends in refractive and cataract surgery.
The symposium was once again a unique opportunity for ophthalmologists, researchers, and experts to share knowledge and establish professional contacts. The program included numerous sessions focused on cataract and corneal refractive surgery, providing a platform to introduce new technologies and surgical techniques.
Among the prominent Czech representatives was the head of the Gemini Eye Clinic network, MUDr. Pavel Stodůlka, Ph.D., FEBOS-CR, who since January has been serving as Treasurer (CFO). He participated in a didactic course on phakic intraocular lenses, which provided a comprehensive look at this much-discussed method of refractive surgery. Phakic lenses offer a solution for correcting higher refractive errors, especially in cases where laser surgery is not appropriate.
Another important contribution he made was a presentation on the new Hyperopic SMILE surgery, one of the most advanced techniques for correcting farsightedness. Stodůlka shared not only his professional knowledge but also the first clinical experiences and results of operations performed at the Gemini Clinic. This clinic is one of the few in the world that perform this method of surgery. In August of last year, the Gemini Eye Clinic performed the world’s first official surgery with Hyperopic ReLEx SMILE. This procedure is currently available only at Gemini clinics in Zlín and Prague.
